The Westermo FD-40 is an industrial Profibus DP to serial
converter designed to satisfy industry’s demands for reliability and
functionality in tough environments with high levels of
interference. It is approved and supported for use in the North
American, South American and European Union markets, as well as in
the other regions of the world with a single unit.
The FD-40 is particularly well suited for use with PLCs in
industrial plants and production facilities. With galvanic
isolation, transient protection, 12-48 VDC power requirements and
single action DIN rail mounting, it simplifies industrial

possibilities. Most major brands of PLCs have been tested with the
FD-40.
The FD-40 Profibus DP to serial converter allows the integration of
legacy devices and systems that only have serial capabilities to be
used with Profibus DP fieldbus systems. The FD-40 acts as a DP slave
module and uses DP I/O data to create a transparent connection to
the serial interface.
By using the Windows based FD-Tool, the FD-40 can easily be
configured for almost any device, from measurement instruments,
electronic scales, operator terminals, printers, identification
systems, barcode readers to other automation equipment with RS-232
